Pitched Roofing

A pitched roof is the commonest type of roof in the UK. A minimum pitch of 12.5 degrees is required. Normal coverings are concrete or clay tiles natural slate, stone etc.

A pitched roof is constructed as follows:

Breathable Underlay

A breathable underlay is attached directly to the roof trusses. It helps to weatherproof the roof space but allows water vapour out. By preventing condensation or moisture build up it minimises further problems such as mould etc.

Different grades or thickness of membrane are stocked to denote performance and strength.

Batten

The underlay is ultimately fixed to the roof by using roofing battens. The batten also supports the roof covering eg tiles, they are spaced according to the specification of the tiles etc.

Timber roofing battens are pressure treated to BS5534. We carry in stock 25mm*38mm and 25mm*50mm. we only have the highest grade of batten with the distinctive gold colour.

We also have a small quantity of treated 19mm*38mm batten.

And then you need to choose your tiles...

Concrete Roofing Tiles

Concrete roof tiles are the commonest type of pitched roofing covering for todays market. Several manufacturers produced tiles ranging from flat to various profiles in a wide range of colours and finishes.

Clay Roof Tiles

Very similar in appearance to a concrete tile, same basic profiles. They are manufactured from natural clay which is fired to produce a high quality product. They are much more durable and unlike a concrete tile which suffers from surface degradation, clay tiles retain their appearance over a long period.
